Folded Ping Pong Table Size and Where It Goes
Folded, a full-size table is a refrigerator on wheels. Three measurements decide whether that works in your house.
How these picks were made: from published manufacturer specifications, governing-body standards and the room arithmetic - not from first-hand use. We have not played on these tables. Read the method.

The three numbers
| Dimension | Typical | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Width | 5 ft 0 in | Fixed by the table's own width - it never gets narrower |
| Height | 5 ft to 6 ft | Clears any ceiling; will not clear a stair soffit |
| Depth | 1 ft 6 in to 2 ft 6 in | Decides whether it tucks against a wall or juts into the room |
| Weight | 150-300 lb | All of it on four castors |
Measure the route, in this order
- The storage spot: width, depth and height of the actual gap.
- Every doorway on the route, frame to frame.
- Every corner on the route - the diagonal, not the width.
- Any stairs: width, headroom and the landing diagonal.
- The floor surface: thick carpet makes small castors a two-person job.
Where folded tables actually live
- Against the long wall of the same room. The most common and the most honest. It takes about 2 ft 6 in of wall depth and 5 feet of length.
- In the garage. Works if the garage is dry. Cover it - a folded table collects dust on the playing faces, which point inward but not fully.
- Under a stair run. Only if the headroom at the deep end clears 6 feet, which most do not.
- A spare bedroom corner. Fine, but it blocks a 5-foot wall and realistically ends the room's other use.
Storing it properly
- Lock the castors. A 250-pound object on free wheels moves when nudged, and it will nudge a car or a wall.
- Store the two halves face to face, which is how the fold is designed. Never store the panels flat and stacked face-up.
- Keep it off a damp wall. The panel edges are the part that absorbs moisture first.
- Remove the net if the table will stand for months. Permanent clamp pressure deforms the net posts' mounting points.
- Cover it in a garage or workshop. Dust on the playing surface is abrasive under the ball.

What to buy for your storage situation

#1 · The narrow storage space
JOOLA Tetra 4-Piece Ping Pong Conversion Top
Four panels that turn a pool table into a table tennis table and stack behind a door afterwards. The storage story is the product.
If your storage is a gap rather than a corner, panels fit and a folded table does not.
- What works
- Stacks genuinely flat against a wall
- What does not
- Needs a table underneath to play on

#2 · A corner that exists
STIGA Advantage Indoor Table Tennis Table
The default family table: a full-size folding indoor table with STIGA's Quickplay assembly, aimed at first-time buyers.
If the corner exists and the route to it works, a folding table is the better game.
- What works
- Folds without a second person
- What does not
- Still 5 ft wide folded
If no storage exists
Then a folding table is a permanent 9 by 5 foot object, and you should plan the room that way rather than pretending otherwise. The honest alternatives are a conversion top over a table you already own, or giving the table a permanent home and arranging the room around it.
