How this site makes money, what it costs you, and the specific ways it does not affect what we recommend.

Product links on this site carry an affiliate tag. When you click one, the retailer records that you arrived from here, and if you buy something they pay us a small percentage of the sale.

You pay exactly the same price. The commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not out of your pocket, and the price you see is the price anyone sees.

Every one of these links goes through a redirect on this site - a path beginning with `/go/` - which adds the tag and sends you on to the retailer. Those redirect paths are excluded from search engines and carry no tracking of their own beyond the retailer's own attribution.

Which programs we are in

ProgramStatusWhat it covers
Amazon Associates (US)ActiveEvery product link on this site
Direct manufacturer programsNoneNo direct brand relationships exist
Sponsored contentNoneNo page here is sponsored
Paid placementNoneNo product position has been paid for
Free or sample productsNoneNo products have been received
Every commercial relationship this site has, as of the date below.

If any of that changes, this table changes with it, and the affected pages will say so.

How this affects what we recommend

It does not change the ordering of any list. Specifically:

  • We do not rank by commission rate. Every list here would be in the same order if the links earned nothing.
  • We recommend buying nothing, regularly. Several pages conclude that the right answer is a different category, or a cheaper product, or no product at all. That is the behavior a disclosure like this is supposed to make verifiable.
  • We name who should not buy each pick. Every product carries a skip condition where an honest one exists.
  • We say when something cheap beats something expensive. A twenty-dollar short cue is recommended more often on this site than any table.

The incentive this funding model does create is a pull toward recommending something rather than nothing. The honest negative - telling you plainly when nothing fits your room - is our answer to it, and it is on most pages here.

Prices

There are no price figures anywhere on this site. Prices change constantly, and a number written into a page is wrong within a week - which is both unhelpful and, under the Associates program terms, not permitted for stale data.

So every buy button reads Check price on Amazon and takes you to the live listing, where the current price is whatever the retailer is showing at that moment. If a live price ever does appear on this site, it will carry the date it was checked and it will disappear on its own if it goes stale.

The required statement

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.

FTC compliance

United States Federal Trade Commission guidelines require that material connections between a publisher and the products it recommends are disclosed clearly and conspicuously. This page is that disclosure, and it is linked from the footer of every page on this site, from a banner on every page that recommends a product, and from directly beneath every buy button.
