The Best Ping Pong Conversion Tops
The answer when there is no room for a second table - provided you check what is underneath it first.
How these picks were made: from published manufacturer specifications, governing-body standards and the room arithmetic - not from first-hand use. We have not played on these tables. Read the method.

A conversion top is a flat panel set, usually in two or four pieces, that rests on a pool table's rails or across a dining table and turns it into a table tennis surface. It is the right answer more often than people think, and it is wrong in one specific way people discover too late.
Check these four things before you order
- What is underneath. The top is only as flat as its support. A pool table's rails are flat and even, which is ideal. A dining table with a slight bow is not.
- Height. A regulation table stands 2 ft 6 in. A pool table stands around 2 ft 7 in, so a top on rails lands close. A dining table at 2 ft 6 in plus the top's own thickness ends up slightly high. Neither is fatal; both change the game a little.
- Size. A full-size top is 9 by 5 feet. On a 7-foot pool table, that overhangs the ends - which is fine structurally, but it means the cantilevered ends flex more than the middle.
- Clearance. The top does not change the room requirement. You still need roughly 17 by 10 feet to play properly.

The picks

#1 · Narrow storage
JOOLA Tetra 4-Piece Ping Pong Conversion Top
Four panels that turn a pool table into a table tennis table and stack behind a door afterwards. The storage story is the product.
Four panels stack to a flat bundle that fits behind a door or down the side of a garage. The trade is three seams instead of one, which you will notice on a ball that lands on them.
- What works
- Smallest stored footprint here
- One person can carry a panel at a time
- Fits more storage spaces than any folding table
- What does not
- Three seams across the playing surface
- Alignment matters each time you set it up

#2 · Fewest seams
STIGA Table Tennis Conversion Top
A two-piece conversion top with a net. Lands on top of a pool table's rails, so check your rail height before you order.
Two larger panels, one seam. Better to play on and worse to store, which is the entire conversion-top trade expressed in one product.
- What works
- Single central seam
- Faster to set up
- What does not
- Each panel is awkward for one person
- Needs a bigger storage space

#3 · When you do have the room
STIGA Advantage Indoor Table Tennis Table
The default family table: a full-size folding indoor table with STIGA's Quickplay assembly, aimed at first-time buyers.
Included as the comparison. A real table is better in every way except storage. If you have the floor space and the storage corner, buy one and skip this category.
- What works
- No seams, correct height, proper net
- What does not
- Needs a 9 by 5 foot floor and a refrigerator-sized storage corner
Protecting the table underneath
If the top is going on a pool table, it must rest on the rails, never on the cloth. A top dropped onto the bed presses chalk and grit into the cloth and will mark it permanently. Most conversion tops are designed for rail support; confirm it before the first fit, and never slide a panel across the bed.
A felt or foam strip along the rail contact points costs almost nothing and protects both the rail finish and the top's edges.
When a conversion top is the wrong answer
If nobody will reliably put it on and take it off, you own an expensive panel stack. Conversion tops are for households where two games genuinely both get played - not for optimistic plans. If table tennis is the main game, buy a table.
How these were chosen
On panel count, stored dimensions, the support surface each is designed for, and compatibility with standard pool table rail heights. We have not fitted these tops to a table.
